Hi, I’m Andrew Malmuth!
I am a PhD candidate in sociology at UCLA currently studying the challenges of climate adaptation and mitigation in the United States. I use qualitative and quantitative methods to understand patterns in climate change governance, particularly at the local and state level.
My dissertation explores the politics of sea level rise adaptation in California. Using an interdisciplinary approach, I analyze the factors that drive residents to oppose long-term coastal adaptation and why local officials that are facing similar coastal hazards differ in their adaptation choices.
I am affiliated with and have received support from the Climate Social Science Network and the UCLA Luskin Institute on Inequality and Democracy.
My work has been published in Npj Climate Action, Places Journal, and the Los Angeles Review of Books, among other publications.
I would love to connect with you at dmalmuth@ucla.edu.
