Hi, I’m Andrew Malmuth!

I am a PhD candidate in sociology at UCLA currently studying the politics of climate change in the United States. I use qualitative methods to understand how democratic participation shapes climate policy and how climate action is obstructed at the local and state level.

My dissertation explores the politics of sea level rise adaptation in California. I analyze the political contests of climate adaptation to explain emerging patterns of inequality as well as opportunities for a more just, fully democratic approach to adaptation.

I am affiliated with and have received support from the Climate Social Science Network and the UCLA Luskin Institute on Inequality and Democracy.

My work has been published in Npj Climate Action, Places Journal, and the Los Angeles Review of Books, among other publications.

I would love to connect with you at dmalmuth@ucla.edu.
